HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR KNOXVILLE LIFESTYLE NEWBORN PHOTO SESSION
Wondering how to properly prepare for your upcoming lifestyle newborn photo session? I've got you covered with everything you need to know before your lifestyle newborn photo session.
CHOOSE THE LOCATION
While I do have a home studio space, I recommend doing lifestyle newborn photos in your home. It's hard to beat the sentimental value of your own home for a lifestyle newborn session.
You'll want to choose which areas of your home you'd like the photos done in.
I recommend using the nursery, the living room, and the master bedroom.
I don't expect your home to look like my most recent pin on Pinterest. You just had a baby for crying out loud! The point is not that your house is flawless, the point is that your house is home.
I recommend focusing on decluttering only the areas of your home that you'd like to have photos made in. I promise I'm not here to judge your home. I'm here to capture sweet memories of your first few weeks at home with your brand new baby.
CHOOSE OUTFITS
In general, you want to choose outfits that coordinate with the rooms of your home you'll have photos made in.
If you have a color scheme in your home, I'd stick to that. You can always choose a neutral color pallet as well. This can be a very simple and beautiful option.
YOUR OUTFIT
Finding something you feel amazing in so soon after giving birth can sometimes be a challenge.
My best tip is to dress yourself first and build out from there.
Find something that you feel good in that is flattering and comfortable for your postpartum body.
If you're interested in using one of the dresses in my client closet, you'll have full access! These dresses are built to flatter pregnant and postpartum bodies. I'll bring whichever dress you'd like to your session, laundered and freshly steamed. All you have to do is put it on!
Don't forget the details!
Pick out your jewelry. Consider whether you'll get your nails done before the session. Decide if you want to add on professional hair and makeup. I can have a professional hair and makeup artist come to your house before your session so you don't have to worry about a thing!
YOUR FAMILY'S OUTFIT
Make sure you're coordinating the rest of your family's outfits with yours. An easy way to do this is to choose a color scheme that fits with your home and the outfit you chose. Then make sure everyone fits within that scheme without matching exactly.
If you're struggling, add a neutral like cream, beige, tan, white, or blush to your pallet!
YOUR NEWBORN'S OUTFIT
In general, I recommend going with one outfit for the whole session. If we have time, we can switch to a second outfit, but often babies will wake up and get fussy when changing their outfit.
Make sure you're staying within the same color scheme as the rest of the family.
My biggest tip to dressing your newborn is to be sure you're incorporating textures!
Textures look so cute against smooth baby skin. You can pick a cute lace or knit outfit or do a fun textured swaddle with a simple white onesie under it.
In general, it's not hard to do, but be sure your baby's outfit is a little loose and oversized. If you had a big baby, be sure they have room in their outfit.
When you choose your baby's outfit, think about leaving those fingers and toes exposed for detail shots!
PREPARE EVERYONE FOR THE NEWBORN SESSION
PREP YOUR FAMILY
Let your husband know the session will be between 1 and 2 hours. He won't have to be in every photo, but he should be around and ready to go. We'll have plenty of time to get the photos we need, so there's no need to stress or rush the process.
If you have other kids, let them know that someone is coming to take pictures of them and your new baby. Feel free to bribe them as you see fit. I will always support your rules!
I love to let kids see the photos of themselves on the back of my camera during the session. I'm always happy to get down on their level with them and answer any of their questions. I've been known to let them participate and help me take a photo from time to time as well.
Be sure to let your family know they won't have to look at the camera for every photo.
In general, I aim to get a few photos looking at the camera and let the rest be candid photos focusing on the sweet interactions and relationships among your family!
PREP YOUR NEWBORN
Right before your session, be sure to feed your newborn baby and put them in a fresh clean diaper.
If your baby needs to eat during the session, we have time to do that, but starting with a fed baby is a recipe for success in your newborn session!
PREP YOUR PETS
You are always welcome to include pets in your session! If you're going to do this, be sure to have some high value treats and/or a favorite squeaky toy on hand!
